Mermaids, an undersea fantasy MMO, follows in the footsteps of collaborative online experiences similar to those found in Uru: Ages Beyond Myst, Second Life, and There.com — and as such, needs an interface that both is useful to the player as well as providing a point of social interaction with other players.
The primary interface is offered to the user as a “Guidebook” that also serves as their inventory storage. Users can type in their own notes, store items on the same pages as those notes, and are not hampered by their inventory size as they would be in other games.
In addition to these single-player features, players can also share pages with other users, ranging from providing articles for other players to keep in their books to sharing wiki-style pages and collective inventories.
